Professional knowledge available in Hungary to be made accessible for other countries as well

Without controlled and regulated hunting, there is no sustainable nature management, Government Commissioner Zoltán Kovács said at the opening of the International Hunting and Game Management Conference held as part of the ‘One with Nature’ World of Hunting and Nature Exhibition on Wednesday at the HUNGEXPO fair centre in Budapest.

The government commissioner responsible for the World Exhibition highlighted that with the organisation of the conference, their goal is to help better understand the concept of game management, and to make the professional knowledge available in Hungary accessible for other countries as well.

At the beginning of the 21st century, also on this continent, but in particular in Africa, there are voices that demand the termination of hunting, he pointed out with reference to the fact that as part of the five-day conference they will discuss issues like this and other similar “pressing questions”.

Mr Kovács recalled that with the professional conference initiated by Hungary, in addition to the other five international conferences and meetings, they are effectively repeating the events held during the 1971 world hunting exhibition.

At the event Péter Zambó, Secretary of State for Forests at the Ministry of Agriculture said on the first day the conference will focus on the connection between biodiversity and game management. On this day, attendees of the conference will discuss important issues such as the role of large carnivores in communities and the aspects of game management relevant to nature conservation.

From among the programmes of the days ahead, the State Secretary made mention of a debate seeking to analyse the relationship between game management and modern society and to outline the expected future. The thematic part related to game health – which is especially topical in the shadow of the current human pandemic affecting the entire world – will summarise important knowledge, he pointed out.

On the fifth day of the conference, participants will visit the Pilis Park Forest, the State Secretary said. As part of this, attendees will have an opportunity to gain an insight into a special management situation where experts are required to preserve the balance of nature as far as possibilities allow in the immediate vicinity of a large city.

“Only respect for nature can help us to manage our resources successfully,” Mr Zambó said concluding his opening speech, asking participants to take this message with them, the message of Hungarian game management.
