The 8th Session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP8) to the African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbird Agreement (AEWA) will take place on 26-30 September 2022 in Budapest, Hungary.
Commemorative coins and stamps released in honour of World Exhibition
Regarding the commemorative coins and stamps, government commissioner for the implementation of the World Exhibition Zoltán Kovács said he sincerely hopes that in years or decades to come they will represent valuable and enduring items in collections.
Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Hungary Csaba Kandrács said, in addition to its role played in the national economy and the stability of the financial system, the National Bank of Hungary regards the preservation of values and education as equally important; this is the central bank’s cultural mission.
In order to draw attention to the hunting World Exhibition now under way and the values represented by it, on Monday the central bank released non-ferrous metal coins without overlay to the face values of HUF 15,000 and HUF 20,000; 5,000 pieces of the former and 7,000 of the latter, the Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Hungary said.
The appearance of the commemorative coins is adjusted to the overall image of the World Exhibition. The front of the coins features the logo of the World Exhibition; the coins are the works of designer László Szlávics, Mr Kandrács detailed. He added that while the commemorative coins qualify as legal tender, he does not recommend their use in commercial circulation.
György Schamschula, Chief Executive of the Hungarian Postal Services said it is great pride and joy that after 50 years Budapest is hosting the hunting World Exhibition again.
He added that the Hungarian Postal Services commemorate this prominent event with stamps. Therefore, 50,000 stamp blocks were issued, featuring the images of three Hungarian authors and hunters, Zsigmond Széchenyi, Kálmán Kittenberger and István Fekete. Another stamp block of 8 denominations was released in 20,000 copies, depicting animals, including fallow deer, wild boar and Hungarian vizslas. The stamps were designed by Pál Remete.
At the end of the event, Mr Schamschula and Mr Kandrács handed over the first honorary copies of the stamp block and the commemorative coin to Mr Kovács.
“As a forum created for nature conservation and hunting, the “One with Nature” Expo achieved internationally significant results, and accordingly the work we have begun is worth continuing from a professional perspective, but also from a social, foreign policy and national image perspective alike”, Mr. Kovács emphasised in Riga.
